Very clean environment and very friendly staff...I drove down from red deer for the rustic bread.... No go... Have to order online! Will have to come down next week! From the looks of things... Will be worth it! The extra shot... Extra hot cappuccino was sooooo worth it!!

I have only had the choux here (caramel, coffee, chocolate, vanilla). I'm more of a soft choux lover, BUT this is a harder exterior. Under lies a soft pastry. The exterior tastes of a caramelized sugar (in a good way). This harder exterior delivers a nice crunch element harmonized into the soft and creamy interior. The caramel flavour was alright. A little too sugary for me. The coffee was alright. The chocolate filling tasted of a dark rich chocolate...maybe a little too dark (strong) for my taste. And classic vanilla was pretty perfect. My judgement on choux lies in how well they do the classic vanilla. The price point seems correct. Presentation of products is clean and appealing. And i hear great things about bread.
Went here all the way from the burbs to buy their Sourdough Bread because I read that some judges had named them #1. I had no hesitancy paying 10 for a full loaf if in fact it was the best sourdough. Turned out to be a bunch of BS. While the bread was awesome it certainly was not sour at all. Superstore makes a better “sourdough” bread as far as the sour is concerned. Just to be sure, I have had sourdough bread around the world. The best was San Francisco and seriously calling Mari’s Bakeshop’s sourdough bread the best is total hype. The hunt for a great sourdough bread in Calgary, continues. But their deserts? Absolutely incredible! So my trip wasn’t a total loss.
Mari is a unique little Japanese bakeshop in the heart of East Village. The staff are very warm, the treats are super tasty and unique, plus the hot chocolate and tea is amazing! This is a hidden secret that you should definitely try. ;)
