This place is spectacular. Every thing about Bar Modern is great. This is exactly what Calgary needs more of - approachable higher end dining. A pared down menu from Modern Steak but no sacrifices in terms of quality or experiences. Steak Tartare was outstanding, so was the Wagyu jerky, and Wagyu corn dogs. Delicious cocktails, decent wine and beer list. For a main I got the rib eye steak frites and it was mouthwatering.
I use to work at their sister restaurant so I had to give this place a go for sure. I came with my mom for lunch on a weekday. It wasn’t a busy day so service was fast. I’ve honestly gotta say that they’ve ruined steak tartare for me because I can’t order it anywhere else anymore. The potato gaufrettes make the perfect vessel for the truffled tartare and I would never pass up an opportunity to dive into this. For mains I ordered the braised lamb shank and my mom ordered the modern smash burger. My lamb was so tender I could easily eat with my fork alone and it tasted amazing. The demi on it was so good I could almost drink it! And I was getting so full by the end of the meal but I still wanted to finish those mashed potatoes cause they were so good. I didn’t have any of my mom’s burger but she enjoyed it for sure, and if anything I recommend springing the extra buck for those truffle fries cause it turns something casual into something spectacular. We didn’t do drinks this time but I definitely want to come back for dinner and check out some of the other menu items and whatnot, as well as see what the vibe of the restaurant is like at night.
Awesome steak frites regardless which cut you pick. We had the flat iron steak, sirloin and the striploin and they are all good. Famous garlic butter iron tray buns, we order them every time we come here. Great service. Will be back soon.
A great place to have a few drinks with friends. We had their signature caesar and old fashioned. Loved the beautiful décor and friendly staff. We will be back to try out the food next time!
Excellent service. 6 people, we all received our food hot, as ordered, with a couple of accommodations for allergy. We will definitely return. And our server Kelsey reminded us that gratuity was included so no need to add. Top notch.
The burger is excellent! A group of my friends went and we all thought the burger was stellar. Add bacon and upgrade to truffle fries and you won't be disappointed. I tried a bite of my friend's steak and the flavour of the beef was much superior to the steaks my husband makes at home.
I absolutely love Everything about Bar Modern! By far the best steak I have ever had, cooked to perfection. The decor is beautiful and the staff and service were amazing! My Husband and I have already decided this will be a regular spot for us. Thank you Bar Modern for an unforgettable evening, and I’m sure more to come!
