The capital of the Lot department in south-western France. Its site is dramatic, being contained on three sides within a U-shaped bend in the River Lot known as the presqu'île. Dee the mediaeval quarter and the 14th-century fortified Valentré bridge.

Informative, not just about the town and surrounding area but has information on Lot department and wider area. Some staff speak several languages and are very helpful. The elegant building also houses an old timber panelled library (open sometimes to visit) and is well located near the old town, shops and Amphitheatre car park (with Roman ruins inside!)

I went in to ask for dates of the next Brocante in Cahors, which are pretty spectacular and the provided me with am entire list for the rest of the year. The TO is very centrally placed in Place Gambetta. There is also a wonderful weekly market on Wed and Sat. Even if you don't want to buy anything (highly unlikely) just go for the experience. It's very lively and colourful with a wide range of fresh goods - bread, fruit, veg, honey, meat, fish, cheese etc and household goods - knives, dishes, etc and leather belts, summer hats and some clothing.

Beautiful, ancient city, former seat of King Henry IV during English rule in France.

Friendly and approachable.. I spoke in French, but I get the impression the staff will speak English if you need.
