Tasty light lunch (although you can absolutely go heavier!!!) - we had a mixed grilled seafood platter and some oysters to share, followed by sticky toffee pud. All of it was delicious, oysters were plump and shallot vinegar was the right side of tart, and the grilled platter was a nice way to sample everything - the mussels being my favourite! Also the baguette was surprisingly delicious too!! The only reason that this isn't 5 stars for me is that we were sat in what I think was a side room so there wasn't a lot of ambience, and you could hear every other table's hushed conversation - i imagine the main room is a nicer spot if you can ask for a table there.

One of the best worst kept secrets in Suffolk and some of the best seafood this side of the med. A reconfigured layout for lockdown actually improves the experience space-wise in this delightful relaxed café-restaurant. Staff are wonderful and now they even have time for a chat. Make sure you book.

23 years ago I happened to live in Suffolk with my family. At that time one of my favourite restaurants was the butley oysterage restaurant. It was in fact my favourite seafood restaurant in Suffolk. Recently I had the opportunity to return to Suffolk with my family. Remembering how wonderful the oysterage was I wanted to return. Tonight I booked a table for us. When we arrived it was exactly as I recalled. Unpretentious and welcoming. Clearly the clientele have changed, but still it was as I remembered. Now the important part, the service and the food were exceptional. We were first seated in a almost corridor type area. The waiter noticed our disappointment and as soon as a table was available we were moved to the main part. I had the fish pate and Dover sole. There was nothing I could fault. The pate was moorish and tangy. The sole was moist and succulent. My wife had the mixed seafood and grilled fish. I have to admit the oysters were delicious. I've never heard my wife not complain about something. Well tonight she had no complaints. Truly one of the best seafood restaurants I have ever eaten at!

We loved our meal here last night. Awesome food, friendly staff and buzzy atmosphere. Interior is a bit like an upmarket pie and mash shop but don't let that put you off. Shared a smoked fish and oyster starter, then I had the half lobster off the specials board (served with generous salad and buttered new potatoes) My other half had the sea bass, also served simply with new potatoes. We washed this down with a nice bottle of wine and we were full to bursting! I'd definitely recommend a visit here.

Lovely lovely lovely. Book ahead as this place is very busy. Was full when we were there but nice to overhear others talking about how many years they've been going there. I got the smoked fish selection for a starter (as I couldn't chose what to settle on) then skate wing for main and it was all super tasty. Headed down to the shop at Orford Quay after to buy things to take home that I wanted but couldn't fit in my greedy belly in the restaurant. Oysters were super fresh and yum. At the moment due to Covid you have to get be your name at the window by the side of the restaurant then wait to be let in lots of hand sanitizer around so felt very safe
