We were visiting the area and were trying to find authentic BBQ. We searched Google Maps and found Brooks. We smelled it from outside, and the smell was delicious! Before we went in, we knew we would get good food. The staff and owner were friendly. Because of stomach issues, I have problems sometimes with strong fish tastes, but I decided to try the catfish anyway. I didn't have any negative bites from it. My husband ordered brisket which was very tender and was yummy. He talked with the owner who said his wife prepares the BBQ sauce and the sides. Eating here was a pleasant experience. NOTE: Please be aware if you eat in the restaurant early in the day, like we did, the smoke smell may cling to your clothes and hair like it did ours. While I have asthma and allergies, and it didn't set them off, we smelled like BBQ all day. When I showered that night, it was like I was standing in a smoker. Smelling like smoke was the only drawback to a wonderful lunch visit. We told our son about it (we had just moved him to Converse), and he visited and declared it great. When we go visit our son again, we plan to go back, maybe for supper or lunch to go.

Everything about Brooks is good. The brisket is perfectly done, the chicken is tender, and the dirty rice is my favorite side from any BBQ place I've tried. I don't get it as often as I'd like, but they have never disappointed me. The owner takes serious pride in his restaurant and no detail goes unnoticed. I love that it's local and family-run too. Oh, and get dessert. You deserve it and they do cobbler the right way.
I visited Brooks yesterday and the young man up from was extremely kind and even though I took time to look through the menu he helped me out to pick out what I should get. I decided to get the 3 meat plate that consisted of brisket , ribs and sausage with 2 sides of baked beans and Cream corn. The best combination I have ever had. The brisket was tender and not dry and sausage was awesome and the ribs fell right off the bone. They were pretty busy but didn’t take long to bring the order out. The owner was very nice she brought my food out and read my order back to me and even suggest I take a cake and the cake was awesome. I recommend this family owned business. I will be back
Best BBQ I've had in a while. Got a stuffed turkey leg with dirty rice and it was delicious. Very tender and juicy. My lady had a sausage sandwich and it was great.
Only thing I noticed was the receipt showed more than a dollar more added to the items than what was listed on menu. Could have been more forthcoming on the fact they had changed the prices. That was a little disappointing, yet the Big Rob and chopped brisket trays were well filled. So I won't complain too much. Great food. Think family run although limited seating. Recommend trying if you want good bbq.
