Staff with attitude The lady at the counter made an impression strong enough to go online and write a review. I am from Russia so I am not spoiled with friendly customer service so believe me when I say to be careful with the service in this shop. I asked the lady if they sold stamps (I was buying postcards), instead she made a comment about me wearing my mask wrong (the nose wasn’t covered since my glasses fogged up) - here, I admit, I was technically wrong but the way she said it could have been just a tad nicer. Then she told me literally “shops don’t sell worldwide stamps”. I wasn’t there to argue but perhaps she should have spoken for every shop because, what do you know, I bought my stamps in the next shop. Moreover, there was no “thank you, have a nice day” after I paid for my postcards. Nothing! Silence! And just as a bonus: every postcard had a price tag on them. And not the kind that peels off easily. So I spent 7 min at home scraping the paper price tags off these paper cards. It’s ridiculous. It’s a nice looking shop but your experience might be marred by such attitude.

Such a wonderful book store. Independent little shop. So great if you want to support local rather than big companies. The layout is good and they have a variety of non book related things such as puzzles and calendars, maps and globes. They hold talks and I have attended one and intend on going to more. I will definitely be going back.
We previously had good service from this company. Unfortunately our latest experience was poor. After two store visits, a number of phone calls and emails we were told that to have the product we had ordered and waited four weeks for, we would have to pay an extra 16. We will be buying our maps from elsewhere in future.
An excellent travel book and book shop. A very enjoyable visit but Catherine, who was serving us proved incredibly helpful and it turned from a good visit to a delightful one! Local information and help in regard to a purchase in the London branch tommorow! Exceptional service!
Great looking shop, awful service. I went in one lunchtime with the lady behind the counter greeting me with "we're literally closing in 1 minute".. strange I thought the week before Christmas with two members of staff and no other customers in the shop. I said I just wanted a map to which she said nothing so I walked downstairs to get one. The male member of staff came down after about a minute to shoo me back up the stairs after picking what I thought was the map I needed. I got to the till while looking at the map but found the key of the map covered the area I wanted so I told her.. hoping they might let me go down and swap she said nothing .. so asked if have to come back later? She made a comment that if I do come back make sure to wear a proper mask (I had a scarf wrapped around my nose and mouth). I put down the map, went out and got one from WH Smith.
Great book shop nothing like its big brother in London but defo worth a visit for those with a wanderlust. Male bookseller was a bit grumpy though
The best shop for maps and travel books as well as a good fiction selection. Now open with Covid precautions.
My favourite shop on the planet! Perfect for travel reading and meets all your travel needs.
