Averys is one the best independent wine merchants, offering wines of flair, flavour and character often neglected by the multiple distributors. In a world where customer service is on the decline, they have made it one of their best strenghts. If you love fine, affordable wine and being treated as a much-valued customer, you’re in the right place.

Rang Averys Cellars at just past 10am to buy a couple of special offer cases, my order was taken with politeness and efficiency over the phone and by 11.30am I noticed the wine had already been delivered...can't fault that :)

I was standing in the Tesco round the corner debating my options of the different classic reds. I'm having a meal tonight so was willing to splash a couple quid extra and maybe get the Casillero. But I've had a bit of a cruddy day at work today and the lack of variety was getting me unexplainably angry. So I decided to look up \wine\ on Google maps, and Avery's was just a 4m walk so figured I'd check that out. I was welcomed with a warm reception from the friendly cashier, but what surprised me most was how relaxed he acted and how relaxed he made me feel. Whenever I've walked into wine shops like this in the past you get a general sense of unease that you're going to be harassed until you make a purchase; however I was asked why I was visiting today and then left to my own devices. After I received my complimentary glass of red to explore the beautiful cellars within of course. The wine was separated by regions, and as I gazed around the beautiful interior my second wine cellar dread creeped in; cost. With wines starting from 7.99 there was actually plenty of options around the 8-10 range. As the wine started taking effect, all my worries from the day began to subdue and I headed to the basement to explore the art gallery on display at the moment. I ended up buying a bottle of Florbela, Portuguese, for 9.99 and can't wait to crack into it tonight. What a lovely shopping experience. I might have to go wine shopping more often!
