Amazing local radio that takes a real, genuine and consistent interest in the community which it represents. Special mention to Allison Ferns for taking the time to talk to and engage with normal folk going about their lives! Keep it up guys.x

BBC Sussex is one half of a twinned BBC local radio station, the sibling station being BBC Surrey. Its brief is to report and reflect local news and opinion, with the backing of the BBC's authoritative support and training for all its staff. Additionally, the station offers deep coverage of local sport and the music scene, especially supporting emerging artistes. It entertains with carefully-chosen popular music to suit its demographic reach. Between them, the editorial area of the twin stations spans the counties of Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex, with the addition of North-East Hampshire. However at times of peak listening, such as breakfast and evening drivetime, the station splits so that Sussex and Surrey have their own service. Guests appearing on air are efficiently and pleasantly welcomed to the waiting area in the Queen's Road studio building, from where the walk to the studio is relatively short. Presenters operate their own equipment and manage many aspects of their programme during transmission, so guests should not be disturbed by the relatively little attention paid to them either side of a live interview. In my personal experience, the interviews themselves are well-researched and respectful.
