Very dramatic ride! Only ever been on the cable car up to Monte before. This one follows a valley and drops down before ascending, close to the entrance to the Botanical Gardens. Everything was automatic by scanning your ticket on both cable cars and it all went very smoothly. One word of warning if you are using both cable cars to get back to Funchal centre, there are a lot of steps up on the return journey between the two cable cars.

A pleasant and large garden in the heart of Funchal. I particularly liked the alien fauna looking cactus plant section.

Great view over the city. Clean cars, simple system. Just a little pricy I'd say

Do not attempt to climb the hills up to the Monte Palace or Botanical Gardens! The cable car is a much more scenic, pleasant and easier way to travel! For around 12 one way, you can also purchase joint tickets for entry to the palace gardens at a higher price. Not for the faint hearted if you are afraid of heights, but on a clear sunny day the view is spectacular! Prepare for a cooler temperature when you exit the cable car! The view is amazing and it’s worth it just to visit the beautiful palace gardens and travel half way back down in the wicker baskets!

Lovely experience but pricy. 16 return. Kids under 6 are free. Still pay a lot for the botanical Gardens. Difficult with a pram as it is hilly and roads not smooth.
