When this place was Gallagher's it was fantastic. Real pub atmosphere with a very good restaurant. Passing through the Suzanna phase the Goose and Gander now has a hotel bar feel with a reasonable restaurant. Food quality is good but portion sizes are small. Beers are excellent but the bar atmosphere is a bit clinical.

We go here regularly, there are plenty of other restaurants locally but always been impressed with the service and the freshly cooked food is always brilliant. Went on Sunday but was a little disappointed in the service, no one serving was there usual happy cheery selves, almost verging on rude. Although we booked, we had to wait an additonal 30 mins. This took the gloss off our visit but the food was still good (although the gammon was a little fatty). Wont stop us going back.

The food is always excellent and during the Covid era they have done magnificently to comply with the regulations but still make one's visit a pleasure. So many others may be 'safe' but 'uncomfortable' because of the restrictions. The goose gets it as near 'right' as possible.

Lovely meal. Excellent service with lots of choice on the menu. Specials were interesting. I had haddock goujons, duck and panna cotta. Although more expensive than most pubs in the area, the menu is certainly worth it.

Very disappointing. Dined here with my husband on Tuesday evening 11/08/2020, having been the previous week for lunch which was exceptional. We were seated by staff in the bar area, which we were not expecting . (At this point the bar area was completely empty.)This was not a last minute booking, nor had I been made aware that sitting in the bar area might be necessary. On checking the restaurant area and also taking into account the need for social distancing, there appeared to be several empty tables. We asked to be re seated in the restaurant area which staff did accommodate. we were then seated in one of the semi circular booths which was fine until I looked down and saw that the seats where they joined the back rest were full of crumbs. The table also appeared a little worse for wear as it had some of the veneer missing which would obviously be an issue to clean properly. We chose the black pudding starter with poached egg and mustard sauce which was lovely , however both our main courses were not great. I had the duck which was over cooked and was served with dauphinoise veg which was solid and hard on the surface. My husband had the steak( 23 ) which was full of gristle and quite a small portion for the price. Whilst this meal was included the 'eat out to help out' scheme , I would have complained if we had paid the full price (83)! Its such a shame. I have previously raved abouth place and the food, and recommended eating here to friends and family . But I have to say that I wont be rushing back.
