I’d never heard of this place until I spotted it on google maps. I was in the mood for something new, with a draft beer, so I decided to swing by. I found a menu full of sandwiches, both traditional and bespoke, and a fairly healthy beer list. Seems like they have a few side options to accompany your sandwich, but those aren’t included without a surcharge. Ultimately I settled on the hot pastrami, a staple hot sub, and made my way to a seat to wait. The wait wasn’t long, and before I knew it I had chomped down half my sandwich. Until then I hadn’t dipped into the unknown reddish/brown dipping sauce, deciding instead to consume the sandwich in the state it had arrived to me from the source of its creation. It was immediately clear that this was a flavorful combination of pastrami, bacon, mustard, Swiss, and veggies. The pepperonis really sang brightly through the rich and smoky meats. But after halftime I started to realize that something was amiss. Instinctively I popped open the mystery sauce and dunked the sandwich. Ahh, there it is. The sandwich was actually quite dry, and my previous state of hunger hadn’t allowed me to recognize the flaw. Immediately I wished for a more generous meat to bun ratio, or at least some mayo or some saucy/greasy peppers on top, anything for a bit more moisture. In my estimation this establishment is a copy/paste job of a semi successful chain from California that prefers to employ exceptionally good-looking humans to generate higher revenues. It’s perfect for ASU. For me, it was a bit expensive considering what I can get at other sub shops. Beer prices are reasonable at 6 on average. Overall, Board & Brew is a solid and creative choice in the heart of Tempe that’s worth taking the drop on.

My family and I came here for the first time today. The location is nice and clean, and their staff is top notch! The owner took the time to introduce himself and ensured our service was perfect. I didn’t think it could get better... but then our food came!! The food was amazing. Great portion sizes, quality fresh ingredients and absolutely delicious. We will definitely be returning!

We’re visiting from out of state and stopped here based on the 5-star rating. The establishment was clean and has outdoor dining options. I loved the bar area layout even though I don’t drink. The gentleman who took our order explained the layout of the menu and was very helpful. I went with the Cobb salad and was not disappointed! Very tasty!

I have been to Board & Brew a couple times in the San Diego area and absolutely loved it. When visiting Phoenix over the weekend, I noticed the Tempe location on the map and knew it HAD to be a stop for lunch! The sandwiches were just as good as I remembered, ingredients fresh, and the service was the cherry on top. The owner, Ted, could not have been more personable. Immediately introducing himself and making sure we were enjoying our food and having a good time throughout our lunch. Trinity, who took our order, was extremely friendly and sweet! I can’t wait until Board & Brew expands into Dallas...but until then, I will be returning to the Tempe location for awesome food and outstanding service!

Killer lunch spot in the heart of Tempe. I had the Baja Chicken and it was everything I’d hoped for, but then I tried my boyfriends Baja Beef and it blew my mind! Will definitely order that one when we come back. Like a beef melt but better. If your sandwich doesn’t come with the special sauce- ask for it. The cookies are soft, the Caesar croutons are a treat in themselves and there’s even a really cool indoor outdoor bar serving beer and wine. Great spot to meet up with friends and chill or watch the game.
