Just behind Auckland Castle the deer house is very ornate and in nice surroundings with the river just down the bank , worth a visit for a nice walk.
A charming Gothic Revival 'eyecatcher' built in 1760 in the park of the Bishops of Durham. It provided deer with shelter and food, and had grounds for picnics and rooms for enjoying the view.
A 10 minute walk from Auckland Tower in Bishop Auckland. Built in the mid 18th century to provide shelter for the deer around the castle. Beautiful gothic structure and shows the wealth of the bishops of that time. Well worth a visit if you're in the area, also it's free.
Lovely architecture, surrounded by a beautiful, serene park. Excellent for a leisurely stroll.
