There are four really good barbecue places in the Northwest corner of the metro Atlanta area. The big shanty smokehouse is one, Jim and Nick's is another, Dave Poe's, and Sonny's. All three are very good each has its own specialty that makes it worth a visit. The big shanty is interesting in that it's in a very small older building. When they have pimento cheese it's well worth getting.

Excellent BBQ! Service was friendly and the food delicious! The sausage and banana pudding were my favorites! But the brisket, ribs and pork were all delicious! A great place to enjoy lunch or dinner!
The food was really good. Had chicken and pork. I did not go in but my wife and daughter said it was really nice inside and the people were super friendly. I looked like there was outside seating. Once dining in comes back I would like to go in to eat.
Pass by this BBQ joint in November said the next time I’m in the area I’d try them . I ordered half slab of pork ribs coleslaw and their Famous pudding the ribs were fatty and not pit smoke to where you bite and the meat gives without having to chew it if the bone. Dry rub wasn’t noticeable bland. The pudding and coleslaw was good I ate everything. Nothing made me say I’d really want to come back . Staff was very attentive fast pace good service. Location a old school country feel
Great barbecue for dine in and take out. The small main seating area is expanded with an air conditioned porch. Authentic barbecue, smoked on site and always served fresh. Plates and sandwiches are good values. Pulled pork is my perennial favorite, though everything I've had here is excellent.
