A good spot to stay in if you’re in Colchester. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The building has a huge amount of history to it, including an underground prison! We had a look down there and it’s amazing to think about how people would have been kept in there. The building has been kept in good condition considering its age. The rooms are a good size, average condition but look good. It’s not an expensive hotel so you can’t expect really luxurious surroundings. I’d stay there again and it makes for an interesting stay if you are looking for something more historic to stay in while in Colchester.

Nice room but the TV didn't work. Went to reception who apologised, tried to rectify, failed so an immediate upgrade to a better room. Ideal. Evening meal delivered to the room. Excellent meal.
Stayed here for 2 nights.18th & 19th August 2020..Lovely 14th century hotel but extremely dirty! Had to change rooms due to the hygiene levels...dust was everywhere. Light bulb, tv leads ect. i used a wipe to show how dirty things were. The whole place it run down and tired. The dust kept me awake throughout the night as it was making me cough. Woke up the next morning with a sore throat and slightly swollen eyes..Hand gel on arrival is a contradiction when there rooms are filthy and tired.didnt eat here due to hygiene levels .great location to clacton.. will avoid this hotel in the future.

Lovely period hotel, clean roomy bedroom with bags of character. Loses a star as food ordered in evening was nothing special. Fabulous breakfast though!
