The food is always superb. I sit at the bar near the kitchen. I ordered Mersea oysters. You can add hot sauce, salt, pepper and lemon juice but just try them on their own. Delicious. All dishes come with a bowl of bread. Different varieties and again absolutely delicious. I tried smoked eel starter after that and again more bread. Superb. The wines by the glass were excellent. Red and white. As you dine the bar staff are busy preparing oysters. It's fascinating to watch. A lovely experience.

The service was bad. Or perhaps it was bad if you didn't look like you were going to drop loads of money on high-price items. We waited 20 minutes for menus and 45 minutes after ordering drinks - and that was only after prompting. The seafood platter was fresh and flavourful, though the 'lobster' that's billed is a half (a small half at that). We had considered ordering more food but it took another 20 minutes for our empty plates to be cleared away. Hate to leave a bad review but this was disappointing.
First-rate ambience and super amiable service. The menu was crisp and delightful. Will clearly recommend this spot to others. Fair rates and generous meals. Good job.

We went to celebrate my partner’s birthday and the food was exquisite (bar the Wellington). The lobster spaghetti, dressed crab , caviar and oysters were extraordinary. One thing that stood out to us was the dessert menu but unfortunately, we were abruptly vacated from my seats as we “only had the table for 90 minutes” – despite the email reservation confirming that we indeed had 2 hours. I recalled that the table behind us sat down before us yet we were made to vacate our table first. The one thing we were looking forward most to – we didn’t get to try! May I mention that no prior warnings were given in regards to the 90 minute table allocation and the oysters took over 30 minutes to arrive after ordering. Truly disappointing and an unfortunate dampener to the night and my partner’s Birthday.
