We haven’t had take out in a while and I’m glad we picked Bates City BBQ for dinner. The portions are deceiving large. My husband and daughter had the ribs. They were fall off the bone, loaded with their delicious sauce, very tender and meaty. I had the turkey sandwich. Delicious! The fries were phenomenal. Again too many for 1 person; next time we’ll share an order. The coleslaw was a great compliment to our meal. I’m sure if the potato salad was made in house it would have been better. Plenty of food for the price. We’ll be back

Just moved to the area and decided to try this place out and WOW!! It's amazing, I had the ribs, fries and beans and potato salad! Prices were great also, 15 for a slab! Insane! 5 stars
I was in KC so I thought I should try some BBQ. I didn't care for Bates and have had much better around the country including places not known for BBQ at all. The prices and quantities were good hence 3 stars. The ribs were pretty bland and very fatty. The beef brisket was dry and flavorless. The burnt ends were swimming in sauce and I wondered if there were actually any in there at all. No silverware or napkins. No diet soda options. The sauce was ok. The jalepenos were soggy. The slaw was super sweet. Based on the owners comment I decided to add a pic from review I made awhile back while in PA. Check out the difference in the smoke ring. Quantity doesn't make up for quality. I hope an honest review from someone helps the owner improve their product.
The mixed plate is my personal favorite. I used to eat lunch here about twice a week. Service is always friendly. Fries are always good and serve a few people.
Food was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They had a GREAT deal on kids meals on Sundays when we went. If you have little ones, go on a Sunday and save a few bucks.
