Barretts Event Caterers

Heartbroken! We were due to get married on 31st May and had paid 1000 deposit as requested. Unfortunately this had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. So rebooked again for 2021. But given the current state of affairs this will not be able to go ahead either. But Barretts refused any refund claiming it was for the tasting menu (in a shack) and “admin costs”. They even refused for this to be able to be used for any future event. Given that they will have had a hospitality grant this just shows how greedy and money grabbing the wedding industry has become. I would avoid.

Barretts were our caterers and we had the most brilliant day. We had a marquee at home and we were a little bit stressed with it all at the beginning but Matthew made us feel so comfortable and relaxed through the whole process. The day (and the food) was so incredible.

We were suppose to get married on the 3rd April 2020 and Barretts were supplying the food for our big day. Due to the pandemic our wedding could not go ahead and we were unable to obtain a new date with our venue. We paid a 1000 deposit to Barretts. We attended a taster day at the value of 100 which is the only service we had from Barretts, so taking this in to account we thought 900 would be acceptable as a refund. When it came to contacting Barretts to say our wedding had been cancelled we were then told we would not be receiving any refund. We were told that due to us changing the date of our wedding twice, which was completely made up, that they were keeping the money to cover admin costs. When questioned about the 2 date changes over back and forth emails this was completely ignored. It wasn't until we threatened to take legal action that the most they offered was a 500 refund, something they would not do if legally we were entitled to nothing. Barretts broke the law. The government guidelines clearly state that there is no such thing as a non refundable deposit. The Government released a statement during lockdown stating that all suppliers have to pay clients back the full amount and should seek monies lost from insurance providers. Customer service was very poor from the moment our wedding could not go ahead as planned. We saved for years for our big day and to have companies like this take advantage of our loss is disgusting.

Barretts did the catering for our wedding. At the time, our venue offered two choices but Barretts were by far the superior choice having looked at both. We made small changes right up until the week before the wedding but nothing was a problem for them. Service on the day was brilliant.

We were so lucky to be able to have our wedding a month before the lockdown came into place! Michelle and the team were so lovely and made us feel completely at ease when we met to talk about menus. Barretts came up with a fantastic bespoke menu for us and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out on the day. The waiters were brilliant at keeping everyones champagne filled and the food was amazing! It was such a lovely day, I wish we could do it all over again!!
