Outstanding service and incredible food. They have an extremely talented chef called Heather who always creates consistently wonderful food.

If you asked me to describe Axe & Compasses Arkesden I would simply have to say \consistently phenomenal\ I always enjoy visiting -the service is friendly and punctual, the food not only is full of flavour but is also always beautifully presented and the entire experience is welcoming and warm at all times. Without hesitation I give them 5 stars and would highly recommend anyone in the area visits, whether for a couple of pints and a light lunch or for a special evening occasion

Lovely country pub. Lots of circular walks around the area. Friendly staff, lovely food. My liver and bacon was as good as it gets. Friend's sole was dry, but when we commented on this afterwards, we were told that had we mentioned it straight away, they would have cooked another one. Beer great. Go to this place!

A classic local village pub with great beers, delicious food, snug and cosy decor and atmosphere. If you need somewhere to go on a cold winters day after a long walk, this is the place to go.

Interesting 'dynamic' between Greek father & son landlords (I believe). Father behind the bar did not appear very happy or helpful. Son had much more energy but was threatening to leave the country because of covid regs (somewhat comically). Very popular pub/restaurant, food was good. Decor very traditional. Very limited outdoor space (possibly could use the area in front of the building for seating instead of parking?). Ale selection good but I was surprised that after a pint of Landlord that was from near the bottom of the barrel (in my opinion), my next choice of ale, Old Speckled Hen, was put in the same glass...
