Horrible system. Arrived via train to Ancona hoping I could walk to the port, collect tickets and board.. not at all. Take the 1/4 bus to Kennedy stop then walk to port of authority. The you need to take the 20 bus 2km away to collect tickets and return to the port of authority (this bus is free). Customs open at 18:00, and two ships leave at the same time so you have two ships worth of people line up to get through. They only have one scanner, so it could take ages. If you were short on time, you’d be in trouble but I was lucky enough to get my tickets and wait in front of customs 20mins before it opened. Makes no sense that the shipping companies don’t operate next to it in front of the customs/port of authority.

Horrible! Ferry was 2h late. Check in was about 2km away in a total different place and information telling from that was very minimal. Hundreds of people going to the ferry trough a small passport check. Fortunately never again.
This place is so unorganized. There were 2 ferries leaving at the same time and approx. 500 people waited in line to get their passport checked, by one(!) lady. Then the staff of the ferries engaged in a shouting match with the officials. In the end both ferries had a delay of 2 hours. Chaos pure! Plan to spend some time here waiting and standing around.
Big delays while boarding/un-boarding the ferry
For those arriving from Split on the ferry that arrrives in the morning, there are no buses near the Port before 11, so, if you need to catch a train, have that in mind while booking it.
