McKinney Falls is a great place for a day trip, or a multi day camping getaway. For day trippers, parking is close to both the upper and lower falls making it easy for anyone to experience both, though the upper path is a bit easier. For those looking to stay a bit longer the campsites are very clean. In fact we didn't see one speck of trash during our whole weekend there! During our stay we swam, fished, hiked, and relaxed never even aware that Austin's city limits are only a few miles away. Aside from its beauty, this is one of the best things about this park for me. It very much feels like you are deep in nature, but modern amenities are just down the road which is quite convenient when you realize you forgot to bring toothpaste. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back next time we roll through.

Happened by here as we saw the sign for it. We were interested in seeing the waterfalls. Entrance fee was 6 per adult - which seemed a little high for as big as the park is - most we’d been to in Texas had been 3/person. Went to both the Upper and Lower falls areas. The upper falls were a quicker, easier walk, but both both were very manageable. Both falls were running with a small bit of water the ranger said. Water was low but still interesting to see. Beautiful setting & easy access to parking and scenic view area. Wasn’t too crowded on a weekday near sunset time. We drove through the campsites also - they looked nice - private and scenic. Interesting to see the impact water has on the terrain. Lots of hiking trails which we didn’t take advantage of. Definitely worth checking out!

This place is so beautiful. Love that everything is easy to walk to. I almost docked it one star because pathways really could be more clearly marked - but that’s just about every Texas State Park we’ve ever been to. This is a natural wonder and every Texan should see it. Cannot wait to come back and actually camp here. This place is gorgeous!

Absolutely love this park!! And it’s so close to us in Austin. The actual falls are beautiful and the swimming is just awesome not to mention the fishing! Definitely out of the way enough to get away from the city yet so close that the nearest store is about 4miles away! I recommend this park for camping and day use to anybody who wants to just get away for a bit!

McKinney Falls State Park is a quick drive just to the south side of Austin, Texas, making it a perfect location for a spontaneous long hike or an afternoon of swimming and picnicking. We parked at the Lower Falls parking lot, explored Lower Falls, Bouldering Rocks, and then hiked 2.5 miles along portions of easy and leisurely Picnic Trail, and then onto the more challenging Rock Shelter Interpretive Trail. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this park has beautiful displays of autumn colors all throughout the park. Pets are welcome on-leash and there are plenty of amenities along the main trails. We plan to visit again in the spring when the Falls might be more full and to check out Old Baldy, a landmark 100 year old Bald Cypress tree.
