I've been volunteering at the Inside Books Project for a couple of months now, and so far it has been great. As a volunteer, your main task is to respond to an inmate's letter with a package of books. Each inmate may have a very different request, making it an interesting challenge to select the best books. After reading a few letters from inmates, you'll notice a trend of them being _extremely_ grateful for the service. Many are looking to improve themselves by learning Spanish, English, math, a trade, or even simply learning to draw, and Inside Books provides a rare opportunity for them to do that. It quickly becomes obvious that even something as simple as free books can make a big difference in their day-to-day lives, and it feels very rewarding to provide that. From now on, if I ever want to get rid of used books, they'll be going to the Inside Books Project. I can't think of a better use for them.

I have the opportunity to have many people come to me for suggestions for places to go for Community Service. As a DWI Lawyer, this question comes up a lot. The inside books project has always been very friendly, and appreciative of the volunteers. The cause they serve is also one in which I think more people should be paying attention to.

I have been here a couple of times and have gotten nothing but bad attitudes from the employees here. They have yelled at volunteers. They have threatened to kick volunteers out for not telling them they were coming beforehand. Even when you email them to tell them you will be coming with a group they reject you and tell you not to come. I have never seen a place get so mad that they have \too many volunteers\. I get that it is a small space, but I have never felt like I wasn't able to complete my purpose when there are \too many people\. I would not recommend volunteering at this place unless you want to feel bad about even showing up to volunteer in the first place. The overall mission for this place is great, but the way they treat the people trying to help is sad.

What a wonderful organization. Very well organized, to the point and easy to just jump right in a help. I was really impressed with the whole experience. Great place to volunteer!

A noble operation, a shame it's run by knuckleheads.....
