Having attended Austin Friars myself as a day pupil, now reflecting as both a parent and a Trustee, I acknowledge there are a lot of things you take for granted in your formative years, probably top of that list are the things that craft the varied, multi-faceted life skills and events that define you as a person and citizen of human society So it was an easy decision to educate our son at Austin Friars when I look back at the guidance, life skills and ethos that I benefited from, I see those same high social and academic values being nurtured and encouraged in our son every day, the entire school community are ensuring all children have the best opportunities to succeed whilst growing into responsible and caring individuals . Over his years of attendance since preschool now in his second year of senior school, through meeting the staff, former pupils, attending parents’ evenings, the myriad of concerts, sports, music and social events, together with my wife playing an active role in the PTA, just being part of the fabric of school life, it is clear to see the ethos and values of the school shine through at each interaction with everyone, pupil, parent or member of staff alike.

I am delighted to be giving a review of Austin Friars school, which has been an important feature in my family’s life for so long. When we returned to Carlisle in the early seventies, we lived near the school. At that time there were boarders, no girl students, the teaching staff were nearly all members of the Augustinian order and there were lessons on Saturday mornings! Lasting friendships were made, and learning became a lifelong habit. School was a happy place and learning almost a pleasure. Pauline and I watched our sons grow both in size and in thinking. It was a particular delight to know that their education was set against the catholic tradition of the Friars. I think it would be fair to say that we were as happy at the school as they were. As a trustee of the school I became closely involved with its management and finance, and helped to make some of the decisions which have moved the school to where it is now, the pinnacle of independent education; the swimming pool alas is gone, but we have an outstanding new primary school, new science labs, better music facilities, a wonderful IT network, redesigned teaching facilities. The Augustinian order continues to be closely involved in the school, enduring that it retains its importance as the only Augustinian School in the Great Britain. Students come to us from all over the world, valued for the quality of its education and its Christian ethos

How do i start i just do not know. This is possibly the worst school i have come across. This is meant to be a christian school however it is the complete opposite. My son had mental health problems and because of this the school did not want him to carry on his time at this school. My son then ended up in hospital ! We paid a lot of money to put our kids in good education and this is what we got in return ! Would not recommend at all!
