For the history enthusiast or to simply enjoy a relaxing and informative half day, you won't be disappointed by visiting Augusta Raurica. Spread over a large area of a former Roman town, it offers everything from stunning views to fascinating history. Everything from ancient temples, a Coliseum, the arena where can I gladiators fought, to buildings showing the everyday life of the Romans. This is a fascinating place and young and old will really enjoy it. There is no entrance charge.

It's really cool because it's a Roman village in Switzerland. The connection is great, especially when you're on your way to or from Basel. You just take the exit when the sign says Augusta Raurica and then after a couple of turns you've travelled through time back to the Roman times. There is a parking lot at 1fr an hour and a bar to grab something to eat and drink. It's a great spot to spend a Sunday afternoon.

An absolutely incredible ancient ruin. I have to say, when I think of Germany I don't really think of ancient Roman ruins from 2000 years ago. This place was an absolute delight to find. The ruins have been so well maintained, that it's easy to imagine what the place must've looked like when it was first constructed. With plenty of signs located around the site, it was easy to learn about the different structures we were seeing.

This was a truly beautiful place with lots of ancient Roman ruins. They are very old and not all are intact but for me, that's part of its charm. They are spread apart as it is a former village or town, but it is very much worth the walk.

I love all this ancient Roman ruins some original and some others that have been restored to show what they looked like, with plenty of facts and information. Be prepared for a bit of walking as there is plenty to see all sprawled out, with no particular starting point. Showing how vast and far the Roman Empire spanned and reached. Interesting, enjoyable and educational day with a bit if history.
