They don't allow civilians to visit because its under management of SSGs. You require permission or pass from a high ranked army officer to visit this fort. Although the structure is ancient about 500 years old and quite a wonderful place to explore the unique architecture. You will see it is located on a safe location to avoid attacks from other nations. Must visit if you have proper permission and try to visit before 5pm.

Reasonably maintained, ...However, historical icon needs adequate/ consistent govt funding and attention to preserve/uplift the decaying structure... The site can become an in_demand tourist attraction with provision of water sports, food point, souvenirs outlet and guided tour facilities...

The historical Attock Fort was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. It is maintained well by the pak army and SSG. To visit the fort one can find some source for entrance.
