Incredibly inexpensive and unique place!

I've been shopping here since 1980. I've bought everything form perfectly mixed and matched house paint to contest grade balsa wood. The place is old school; you get old school service, old school common sense advice and you can even get stuff that's old school, like spar varnish and nitrate airplane dope. Kirk and staff are truly the best and seem to know everything about their inventory. Besides that, you can't beat their prices. The place ranks as one of the seven wonders of Raleigh, truly an institution.
Those who know go to Askew Taylor. Heads and shoulders above any other art store. Jerry's is great, and the only reason I ever go to Jerry's is when Askew is closed. The owner is also one of the few local true master paint mixers so for precise paint jobs, there really isn't a local alternative. AT is a golden rule business that personally cares for customers if there ever was one.
This small house on Glenwood Avenue, located near the cupcake shoppe, is literally packed wall-to-wall with fine art supplies. It's a little messy but they have the largest selection of fine art supplies that I found in the all of the triangle, great service, and good prices. If you go to the store for the first time, you'll notice that around every corner where you think is a storage room for the employees, there is another mass of paints, canvases, paper, screen printing, seal equipment, calligraphy, pens, pencils, brushes, colored pencils, charcoal, pastel, airbrush tools, clay, books, portfolios, and the list goes on and on!
This is the best place to shop for art supplies in my area. Kirk Taylor and his staff are wonderful. Kirk's interest in, and knowledge about art supplies is deep! The staff all take the time needed to help, and Kirk will research unusual products for you as well. I have been shopping here for many years, and it is simply the best!
This was my favorite place to get supplies during my design school days, and I am missing this place now that I live in Colorado. No other art store compares to it. I could spend hours exploring every nook and cranny and the prices were reasonable. I just bought some homemade paper from a store here for 5. I had the same paper already in my supplies from Askew and it was 1.30. Of course, that was years ago, but I'm sure it would still be comparatively cheaper.
Love the staff. As a student, Askew is my favorite place to pick up all my modeling supplies and tools. They're always very helpful and have a great variety :)
I come to Askew Taylor for the tools and materials I use to build model-aircraft for a few simple reasons. They have a wide selection of specialized cutting tools and the accessories which go with them, the prices on consumable art supplies are very reasonable, and the staff is supremely helpful when it comes to choosing the right tools for a specific project.
