Removing lymph nodes, either via sentinel lymph node biopsy surgery or axillary node dissection, is cruel and inhuman and continues to be the current standard of care for breast cancer patients, even though 10 million people in the U.S. suffer from lymphedema. And, no one talks about or acknowledges it! Many breast cancer survivors are left fighting a condition that most doctors do not know how to recognize or diagnosis. Doctors spend an aggregate of 15 minutes discussing the lymphatic system in medical school. It's unbelievable in 2019 that cancer surgeons insist on damaging a bodily system that they know so little about and is such an important part of the overall immune system, and especially for cancer patients with compromised health! Removing lymph nodes has no medical benefit to the patient, rather it only diagnosis the stage of cancer. This procedure mainly affects women, leaving many to suffer secondary lymphedema. If millions of men were routinely being maimed and deformed, outrage would ensue. However, women suffer silently.
