There are 2 choices of boat trips to the Isle of May. One is a ferry boat with a two tier seating arrangement and a rubber inflatable boat [RIB]. both depart from the Anstruther Jetty. We chose the May Princess. The sun was shining bright and we chose to stay on the upper deck . more adventurous families chose the RIB and it bobbed and bustled itself on the waters to reach the Isle a tad bit faster than the may princess. The photographic opportunities started almost immediately. There were many Gannets , Razorbills and puffins lending themselves to action shots on the waves. Elderly and sea sickness prone people chose the lower deck . After about 45 minutes , we landed at the Isle of may. The Birding is exquisite. but you need to move fast to make sure you get all your photos in time. There are amenities on the Isle , but no eateries. we had carried fruit and drinking water. The return journey was a bit more bumpy with a little rain. but Being a protected nesting site, we really had to be careful about our movements. One of UK's best birding sites.

The Isle of May Boat Trips (Osprey of Anstruther) was the icing on the cake of my entire visit to Scotland. What an amazing and spectacular ride. There are two boats that you can choose from to make your adventure to the Island of may; one is the bigger boat that takes about an hour or so to get to the Isle and then there is the second boat called Osprey which is like an official army little marine boat that can hold a maximum of 12 passengers and gets you to the Isle in just about 25 minutes. We chose the Smaller Osprey boat and our experience was nothing that you can describe in writing. I made a promise to Roy - the skipper to write about how great he and the trip was. Well, first and foremost, Roy is a retired intelligence agent and a formerly local sheriff for years, a man that you can truly trust with your safeness, and that's beside the point that the boat itself is a very safe and officially licensed both by the Marine Coastal Authority. Second, Roy isn't just a fantastic skipper, but also very kind, patient, charming and most of all very knowledgeable and informative. With that being said, I recommend that you choose the smaller Osprey boat for this trip. The adrenaline and excitement we felt on the boat was one hell of an experience, especially when we stopped in the middle of the ocean at the foot of these spectacular cliffs of the island. We bought our tickets online in advance about a month earlier, and you should do the same since It was a great feeling arriving at the Isle of May Boat Trips office and find our names and tickets already waiting for us. The Isle of May is a must-visit for all but especially for those who are a nature freak. This is nature at its best. We were on the island for two and a half hours and it was a blast. We enjoyed seeing almost a half a million of birds; we saw the magnificent puffins; seagulls; cormorants; seals and many rabbits. So, thank you Roy, and thank you Isle of May boat trips for an amazing experience.
My fifth visit, second on the fast rib. As before we had a wonderful time. Thrilling ride and Roy was very entertaining. We'll be back next year at Puffin time.
Alec the skipper is very knowledgeable and the staff on board very attentive and helpful. I have no bother recommending this trip to anyone. I was on the May Princess 16/07/20and will be going again soon. The birds were a delight to see
Got the May Princess boat out to the island and back. Very comfy trip and very friendly staff. Wee man loved it too.
