My daughter and I went for a follow up for a splenectomy, and felt we were not really listened to. My daughter has been sick at least every other week since her surgery last year with MANY school and work absences, but when this was addressed with Dr Walkovich, she totally dismissed this as nothing she needs to be concerned about because the lab results were normal. So exactly what is the point of a splenectomy follow up appointment if illnesses due to the fact of her not having a working spleen are not addressed? We could've gotten labs at the Pediatricians office if that was all that they (Heme/Oncology) was looking at, or care about, for their surgery success rate. The Dr also said that due to my daughter's good lab results, her Penicillin that she takes prohylactically, would be discontinued. This was to help stave off illnesses, but my daughter is sick with something all the time, constantly fighting off everything she comes into contact with. We are already scheduled with our Pediatrician where I'm sure her NEEDS will be LISTENED to AND TAKEN SERIOUSLY. I want to finish this by saying I love UofM and the care she was given up until this point was exemplary, and I am not in the habit of writing a negative review for anything, but I felt, my daughter felt, and my husband felt like she was just being pushed aside for good lab results and didn't want to deal with it look into WHY my daughter is continually sick AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. Very disappointed, and a complete waste of time for both of us.
