Captivating expositions in historic building by the river Amstel in old Amsterdam.

Pleasant place to go to. It’s pretty empty at noontime if you enjoy looking around in peace. It’s cool indoors and spacious. The guided tour has an annoyingly loud beep every time you scan another painting, but that’s a minor issue. A great selection of artworks. There’s also a kitchen near a secluded part of the Hermitage. The Rembrandt exhibit/light show was nice. The voice acting was clear. You may need to move fast, though. The restrooms were nice. The indoors restaurant was a little too exclusive, so I stayed at the café outside the entrance. If you exit the other way, you may be able to lounge in the garden. Overall, I highly suggest you go here if you want a peaceful museum as your next destination.
The Hermitage is a large museum in an historical building on the river Amstel, housing various top-notch temporary exhibitions. The Portraits of the 17th Century exhibition (until Feb 2nd 2020) is quite stunning. Not in the least because it has been augmented with a present day intervention - pictures of citizen of color of those days (actual historical figures) beautifully depicted by notable citizens of color of today, such as rapper Taifun and football player Ruud Gullit. Together with a fantastic ensemble of huge genuine 17th century group portraits. Very worthwhile! The Hermitage also has a large and well renowned restaurant.
A nice collection of Dutch masters was on exhibition when I visited this museum. It has a good location and easy access from the city center. Good to know all the heritage and inter-connections amongst Dutch painters during the Dutch Golden Era.
Great exhibitions, would be nice to have student discounts
An interesting place but overpriced. When we were there the self guiding information headphones in English were not working at all. Staff did not really care, no help there. Whole place is traveling exhibits and some permanent ones such as the local paintings. We liked it but in truth there was not much content to be had.
Great exhibits. Beautiful paintings.
I really enjoyed my visit to this museum, the shop had some great replica plaster busts which I could leave without buying. The cafe and restaurant had lovely menu. the Sculpture exhibit was brilliantly presented, The Three Graces were breath taking. I had a lovely time.
