Alinea is not a restaurant...at least, not in a conventional sense.|nea in downtown Chicago is not just a restaurant; it's a unique dining experience. Chef Grant Achatz and Nick Kokonas created Alinea back in 2005, and since then it has won many awards such as Best Restaurant in America and the prized Michelin 3-Star Rating and James Beard Award. It is not everywhere that a chef can create a menu course with hydrogen, an apple and a balloon. The cuisine and experience will reach all of your senses. Alinea, there is no ordering off a menu. The meal is created specifically for you by the chef, making it a unique experience. You prepay when you make the necessary reservation. The Alinea experience takes approximately three hours, so plan accordingly. Menus for the various dining experiences at Alinea range from 10 to 18 courses, all beautifully presented and delicious. Wine pairings are also available.

We ordered two of their take-home meal kits. Pick up was super easy at Chalet in Wilmette. Really clean and well organized. And the food was gorgeous honestly. Very well-presented, tasty, and unique. See pics for menu details. My husband and I will definitely do this again for a special dinner \out\ (at home with kids watching a movie downstairs)...

The Christmas dinner package was fantastic. I still dream about that Roasted Chestnut soup served with Truffles. I really enjoyed decorating the Yule Log Cake. Will order this again for several holidays going forward. Alinea hit it out the park as always!

I am sure their food, style, pricing approach will provoke debates but I just tried to enjoy every moment. To me, presentation and feeling special plays a part to the whole experience. The food was not bad but i was not going to break down every components on the plates. I have to give credit to the chef to be so creative in how he uses the ingredients. The higher the price, the higher the publicity, the higher people expectations are so they will need to keep up with our expectations to continue to push the boundary and surprises.

This review is from our dine-in visit in 2018. The service is top-notch and the presentation is impeccable. Most courses were delicious with a couple misses. There needs to be better dessert than the fancier dipping dots ice cream and the sticky balloon but overall, a great experience. I took my dad here for father's day and he was wished as soon as we entered. Attention to detail is impressive.
