We tried Afghan Kitchen partially out of curiosity: How could a restaurant stay in business in London for years with no website, no delivery service and accepting cash only? The answer appears to be that the food is good and inexpensive. We ordered four different dishes, and loved three of them. The two lamb dishes, one with potatoes and one with spinach, were excellent and different enough to enjoy both. We also ordered the pumpkin dish. It was well spiced with chili oil, and calmed down with yogurt. A good combination. We also ordered the freshly made bread and baklava for dessert. Both were good, but not extraordinary. The one dish we didn’t like is the fish. The menu said it was cod, but it was too fishy for me to believe it. Not awful, but just not to our taste. Now that we know that they are good cooks, we’re eager to go back to try the chicken and another vegetarian dish. I expect they’ll be great.

Fantastic authentic food in a wonderful small but lively restaurant. Very authentic vibe to the whole experience, fantastic service. Very good at managing my food allergies also! Cannot recommend more!

I was served the so called famous bread which was hard as wood. Not good for digestion. The chicken curry with yogurt was not great either. 2 hours later and the taste was still lingering in my throat. I asked for some Green Tea and now realise why it cost 50p. It was tasteless. The seating is poor. Most of the reviews are from English and European folk who are not good at identifying a good or bad curry. I gave it 2 stars because the staff work hard.

Small restaurant over two floors with sharing tables so not ideal if you are looking for some intimacy. Very popular and specialised on small selection of meat and vegetarian dishes. We tried Sarah’s dish and it was very tasty. Some people prefer to order several dishes and rice and share. They don’t accept cards but there is an atm just one minute away. I think the glass of dogh could be a bit bigger.
