This place is awesome! I completed their 14-day accelerated private pilot program. I can first hand say if you study before you arrive, take the written exam and continue to study up until the start date, like they advise you to, their program is a solid curriculum. Even with weather and transportation delays (unexpected 24 hour lay over from the commercial airliners) they still managed to get me through and finish a day early! I passed my check ride after only 11 days because of how efficient and thorough their training is! The owners are genuine and truly care about what’s best for the students, when it looked like weather would prevent my check ride from happening, one of the owners offered to pay the commercial airline change fee to allow me to stay an extra day. Just this small offer alone, helped alleviate stress because he wanted to be sure I could focus my full attention and efforts on passing the check ride instead of stressing about getting home. I am thoroughly impressed with this school and will definitely come to visit and rent planes from if I’m in the area again

Great staff with knowledgeable, safe and friendly CFI's! Information was presented in a positive manner and the classroom subject matter helped to make the flying part of the training successful. I am confident that I received the best training in Alaska that is available!
I got my PPL here in October 2020 through their accelerated program. John Leavitt was my instructor, and he was great. No - he was incredible. He's a great pilot, which there are a lot of, but more importantly, he's a great teacher. I flew for about two weeks, but had a week of weather come in right in the middle of it. The down time was actually great, as I got to talk with John A LOT. I was very comfortable heading into the oral portion of my checkride especially. I felt like everyone's goal was to get my license done while I was there. The owner, my instructor, the front office...it was great. The planes were well maintained. Fly Around is a 10/10 - I would recommend their accelerated program to anyone that wants to get their license done quickly rather than drag it out over months.
I planned with them 6 months in advance to come up from Oregon and get my instrument rating, when I arrived they didn’t even have a IFR certified trainer. After two months of waiting in Alaska, still with no instrument rated aircraft, I had to go elsewhere. These guys make big promises and do not follow through. Luckily I did not, but please think twice before paying them upfront for your training.
