Note - in the months of June, July and August, the evening tours start at 17:15, 18:15 and 19:15. The Fortress is perched proudly on the summit of the Monte Alturo near Palau. If offers sweeping views over the bay and the Maddalena Archipel of islands. It can be visited by guided tour only. There is a small parking lot with ticket office at the foot of the long staircase to the fort (on the other side of the road). Easy to find if you just drive there.

Unfortunately it was closed, but from what we saw it looks like it should be a good place to visit
The fortress guide doesn't want to move the little finger to make it possible to visit. There are many safety flaws on the site, which make it easy entry for sporty people... Still doesn't want to hear about it. The site is nice and I hear it's a nice view ;)

Testimone della storia, fortezza molto interessante e ben spiegata anche solo dai cartelli, se poi la visita e accompagnata da una guida si riesce ad apprezzare pienamente. Vista mozzafiato.
La Batteria di Monte Altura, situata a nord-ovest di Palau, in posizione enormemente panoramica, è facilmente raggiungibile attraverso la strada che conduce a Porto Rafael e doveva battere lo specchio d’acqua ad ovest. Dall’alto, la vista spazia sulle isole circostanti fino alla Corsica
